This month has brought us a new Discord Head admin.
The horror of having to say goodbye to Caleb was just… not easy to accept.
I can still poke him when needed. (I’ll aim at his eye).
But he’s getting some long needed rest so maybe we’ll see him again in the future.

After a long consideration and discussion that took me about 5 seconds, I decided that Shiro can take that role over.
I did let him suffer in doubt and the unknown first of course.
But in all seriousness, he was like a vice admin already. The right hand of Caleb.
So it was a logical choice to make, but never expect the expected to happen at first.
Shiro knows what I’m talking about :p

The October Theme: Worldanimalmonth

October was worldanimalmonth.
The task was simple:
“Show us how your favourite animal represents your micronation.
Create your best picture, add a short explanation, and send it in.
Only 1 entry per micronation is allowed!”

So we’ve had entries from Dobirill, Flandrensis, The Kingdom of Pontunia and Mekniy-Lurk.
That means this round has 4, 3, 2, 1 point to spread out across the entries.

Dobirill’s entry was very nice:
“For the majority of last March and April, all Dobirillians could vote for one of 4 birds to become Dobirill’s national bird. The vote ended in a tie after 80% of citizens voted for either the willow sparrow or the Sardinian warbler.
I, the Oligarch of Arts and Culture honoured the tie by declaring both winners and even designed them to be supporters in Dobirill’s unofficial coat of arms.
Incidentally, today is Dobirill’s ‘Bonus Bird Day’, named as such since it occurs on the second date World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated globally. (Different parts of the Americas celebrate it in different months.)”

A reply from Mr. Hypixel just made my day and that’s why Dobirill wins this month nr.1 spot earning a massive 4 points.

The entry from Flandrensis:
“The penguin is the national animal of Flandrensis (no, our secret ninja penguins official don’t exist 🥷 ).
But we have everywhere in our house references to our national animal.”
So yea, being dedicated with so many reference in your house, coat of arms, orders to reward people etc. deserves the 2nd spot.

The entry from Mekniy-Lurk:
“Mekniy-Lurk has a lot of bird culture, our de facto national birds are the osprey and the pallid harrier. Ospreys migrate over our territory and it marks the changing of the seasons (which is important in any myth and culture), and pallid harriers are a very rare species of bird I’ve had the privilege of tagging with my ornithologist friends in the territory of Mekniy – they have been there occassionally for years, and their recent increases are a great sign that the countryside is reversing the trend of catastrophe seen in the last century. We have recently created the Order of the Osprey, which will be issued at conventions, and it is currently our highest diplomatic honour. And ofc, my profile pic here is Eddie, a rescue sulphur-crested cockatoo, lovely fella – I donate to the charity running their rescue station for a few years now.”

The last entry is the one that Andrew I of Pontchartrain-Marepa send in for the Kingdom of Pontunia:
The red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is the national animal and bird of the Kingdom of Pontunia. Also known in the U.S. as the “chickenhawk” (even if they don’t prey on chickens), the bird is a widespread Accipitriform in North America and the Carribean. They mostly prey on rodents and are monogamous. In terms of the relationship with us humans, they have generally benefited from human development of forested areas and are prized for their trainability in falconry, even if the sport is tightly regulated in the United States. In addition, some Native Americans tribes consider hawk feathers sacred, and their distinctive cry has been utilized in pop culture, even if it is co-opted by other raptors.

So after this month, the current ranking is:
Tied for 1e place: Flandrensis and Dobirill with both 4 points.
2nd place: Mekniy-Lurk
3rd place: The Kingdom of Pontunia.
